I love coffee. My favorite is usually a Guatemala bean with chocolaty notes(a subtle natural flavor). My favorite locally roasted bean is Nox by Volente which is part of the Modesto Gospel Mission. Its actually from Chiapas, Mexico which is on the north border of Guatemala.

When the guys at Volente asked for a mural on the front of their roasting spot I was thrilled! I came up with a way of making it a mural vs just branding(which is what they originally asked for). I love brand building and understanding brand power but I’ve learned that murals feel more like a heart-felt song where branding or ad type paintings come off more like a commercial on the radio. Something people try and tune out from. Obviously there are places for signage and branding but I see people stop and absorb public murals and take photos. Logos and ads… Not so much.

I know Volente cares about coffee from farm to cup. I thought it would be cool to represent the farmers as well as educate a bit on how coffee grows.

I’ve been invited to paint at a mural festival in July in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. I’d love to find more mural gigs near there or along the way, as I’ll be driving. Let me know if you think of anything.
